What Makes a Drywall Hammer Different

If you are interested in doing work around your home or cottage you will need to be certain that you have the right tools for the various jobs that you are planning. This includes the hammer. The average hammer can be used for many different purposes with various materials but if you want the right hammer strength for the job you need the right hammer. Always be certain to use the right hammer size and weight to get your job done with the least amount of wear and tear on the person doing the hammering.

If you are using the basic nail hammer they come in sixteen ounce and twenty ounce sizes. If you are pounding nails that are four inches long into wooden planks you’ll want to use the heavier one to ensure you get the right hammer strength for the job. Since you are hammering big nails you will also want to use the nail hammer that has a waffled face. This gives you more control over the hammer as it hits the nails.

If you are taking apart an old deck you will want to use a framing hammer. These come even heavier than the standard nail hammer as they come as light as twenty ounces and then can be up to as heavy as thirty-two ounces in weight. The heavier ones are to provide better hammer strength tearing apart things instead of putting them together. Finishing hammers are for just that, giving the finishing touches to things, normally smaller parts of the project. They can be used on picture frames or floor moldings as well. These do not require the same hammer strength for the job they are supposed to do and so are more often sold as lightweight hammers ranging in weight from seven to sixteen ounces.

There are so many more kinds of hammers. Tack hammers for using with tiny nails or tacks. This hammer has a very different head because of the small items it is used for. There are sledgehammers, drywall hammer, shingler’s hammers, bricklayer’s hammers and more. Each one with its own primary purpose, each one designed to assist the user in getting the correct hammer strength to do the job.
